Overview:
I started my musical journey at the age of 15 when I was introduced to the guitar by my high school music teacher. Since that day, I have been unable to put the guitar down. I am currently one of very few people in the world to major in a B.F.A of Finger-style guitar. I have performed and attended master classes with renowned guitarists Antoine Dufour, Billy McLaughlin and Pino Forasterie.
EXPERIENCE
I began providing private instruction back in early 2009 with local friends and family for free. In 2011 I started to take teaching more seriously and had several students over Skype and in my own studio. I am currently an educator at a music school in Litchfield County and teach in-home private lessons throughout the Hartford area. I fell in love for teaching while attending the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee after being offered a teaching assistant position for a beginner level class of 120+ students. I had helped each student tune, prepare for exams/homework assignments and offered free extra help whenever needed. I was titled "the best teaching assistant" in this class only after two semesters of experience. Since then, I have been teaching consistently with several different companies and independantly in my own home.
METHODS USED
I have a different method for every level student. I start beginners with Hal Leonard's or Mel Bay's Guitar Method books. These books are clear to any age and can be picked up by any student. After these books have been completed, I introduce popular single melody, guitar technique and full tab/sheet solo repertoire books. The solo repertoire books usually contain tablature/sheet music along with chords and sometimes riffs/scales. My primary focus is always what the student would like to learn. I advise anyone who is interested to be prepared with a list of songs/artists you appreciate so I can find you the appropriate books/material.
LESSON STYLE
The most rewarding part of teaching for me is seeing how much my students have progressed after each lesson. There is nothing more I could ask for than having a student realize that when he/she walked into their first lesson, they had absolutely no idea where to even begin.. but now they can play a whole song (or even a whole album!) I make sure my students are clearly understanding the material we had gone over. This is a very important aspect as the student must understand what he/she is practicing. My lessons always end with an outline of what we covered, how well he/she has covered the passages and what needs improvement. The main vision I have at all times as a teacher is my student satisfying the goals they had before they picked up lessons. I want my students to accomplish their dreams and goals they never thought were possible. For a student to realize what they thought was impossible was now possible to me is a successful student.
