I always begin with an interview to get a feel for the student’s level and interest. I start out with basics; musical alphabet, finding keys in the piano, finger numbers, listening. The method books I prefer are the Music Tree series, the Schaum series, Bastien notecards and i have recently began looking into Piano Pronto. My teaching experience goes all the way back to when I was about 12 years old. I would teach parts to my local choir, as well as choirs around my community. I’ve worked with people my age as well as individuals who were old enough to be my parents. Singers would join with no singing experience or ability & leave with new skill & confidence. I've been teaching since the end of high school, when my saxophone teachers enlisted me to help give lessons to some of the younger students in their own after school jazz programs. Since moving to New York I've taught lessons privately from my home studio and traveling to students homes, as well as teaching group lessons in several after-school programs in the Bronx.
