As I said before, every student is complitely different, and is important to understand what they need from the very first time, so you can be an inspiration for them and not a waste of time. The voice technique is so important, basic, for a profesional singer, but is not the only thing you need to become a good musician/singer. Is so important to find your personality as an artist, your soul, and that is the hardest thing for a voice teacher, but when you have a student who developes that thanks to you, is the best feeling in the world. For beginning students, I emphasize a strong understanding of fundamentals. From there we can move on to more complex concepts, techniques, and excersizes. I try to get the students listening to music and eventually, they come to me with what they would like to learn about. The student becomes the boss, will progress and develop at his or her own pace. I only teach Intermediate and Advanced students, and my method really depends on the particular student. I don't believe in a single, "core curriculum" for piano-playing. It really depends on the students' goals, strengths/weaknesses, etc. For my beginning intermediate students, I usually give a selection of little pieces to learn by Bach, Schubert, and Schumann to start developing their ear and sense of rhythm/musicality. The main takeaway I want my students to walk away with after our lessons is that they enjoy playing the violin. I believe that encouragement and patience are huge parts of music education. However, I also like to push my students to take challenges and reach their highest potential.
