I enjoy working at the begining to intermediate level for children as I get to introduce the earliest piano musical skills and I usually spend thirty minutes on teaching piano practice methods and thirty minutes on music theory skills. My journey as a cello teacher began when I was asked by my teacher to assist him with a few college level students who were in the same cello class as me during my BA studies in Tel-Aviv University. I then discovered my passion for teaching people how to improve their technical skills in order to be able to express themselves musically. Depending on the student, I can stick to a book we use and supplement it with my own handouts. I think that it is very important to teach not just how to play an instrument, but also the fundamentals of how music works and why. I create custom lesson plans so that my students not only learn to play the clarinet, but also gain fluency in music reading and music theory. Although method books are helpful tools, I do not consider myself or my students bound to them and I work with each student and their individual goals in order to craft lesson plans that work for both of us. I use the Faber & Faber or Alfred teaching methods with students who are beginners. These methods teach note reading skills, music theory, aural and ear training skills, sight reading, and transposition. If you are a transfer student and have worked with a previous instructor, I'm happy to use the method books you're familiar with. For intermediate and advanced players, the focus is on technique and piano repertoire. I've taught lessons for a total of 8 years in New York City, Boston, and Midwestern Illinois. I've taught all kinds of students: children, teens, college students, adults, and retirees. Each student has come with their own goals and passions, and I enjoy helping each individual uncover, free, and develop the natural voice within. In addition to setting each student up with a solid vocal technique, I've taught basic music and vocal health to young children (ages 5-7), developed music reading skills in teens and young adults, helped retirees improve technically so they can better contribute to their community choirs, and even instructed a folk singer in improvisation, songwriting, and healthy folk vocal technique.
