I am very passionate about teaching, and I encourage my students to figure out what music means to them and how they wish to pursue music in their future as I begin to create a customized lesson curriculum for each individual student. During our first lesson, I will ask what inspires the student so that I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. I have been a professional musician and music teacher for almost 20 years. In 2016, I graduated with a doctorate in saxophone performance from Texas Christian University. At TCU, I studied saxophone with Joe Eckert. He is a well-known jazz and classical saxophonist and was the lead alto and director of the "Airmen of Note," the premier jazz ensemble of the US Air Force, for 20 years. I engage the students in lively conversations about music, I usually engage the students in conversations how school or work is going, and then relate these conversations to their practice at home time. I have been teaching for 5 years to a wide range of ages. I take an individualistic approach to teaching, tailoring my lessons to my students. I teach violin for all levels and beginner/intermediate piano. I encourage all my students to learn how to read music and have a basic understanding of theory. After Berklee I taught full time for one year at a local music store. While attending MSM I taught group classes in New York City middle schools on Clarinet and Flute. I am originally from San Diego, CA, and began playing the flute in my elementary school band. While growing up in San Diego I served as the principal flutist of the San Diego Youth Symphony, and played with local community orchestras. In 2003 I moved to NYC to pursue my Bachelor's Degree at the Manhattan School of Music, after graduating in 2007 I entered the Master's Degree program at The Juilliard School, and finished my degree in 2010.
