I am a professional performer with many years of stage experience. I have taught privately for 14 years. I have also taught classes full of students in ten different grades. I create a fun and comfortable environment for my students and always encourage them to believe in themselves and enjoy their performances. My methods of teaching have been refined over the years and I've found it that methods of teaching have to be tailored to each student. For every lesson I develop a lesson plan that organizes the lesson so there is no time wasted. As I get to know the student more, I develop a lesson plan specific to the student and work on the things that need work but as well as to keep the student motivated by performing and memorizing. For beginning piano students, I typically start with the Hal Leonard "My First Piano Adventure for the Young Beginner," series. As students progress in their piano studies, I begin introducing solo repertoire that will support the concepts being learned in the book series. I will also assign small writing projects from time to time, to sharpen students' compositional and music reading skills. All I want is to know that my students are enjoying music more deeply, and that they gain the self-sufficiency to learn between lessons. I make sure to point out milestones that a student has achieved to encourage that innate human drive for improvement, and always keep looking for what is exciting and inspiring for the student at a given time. Im privately trained as well in all styles of music from pop to classical. I owned my own music school, Academy of Music on Main Street in Central New Jersey for over two decades.
