I am an active performer and educator in the NYC area. I graduated Cum Lade from The City College of NY and received a Bachelors degree of fine arts in Jazz performance. For beginning students who are children, I greatly emphasize vocal exercises to help strengthen their voice. Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce repertoire based on the genre of music they prefer, as well as basic songs that would benefit them to learn. I began teaching private lessons four years ago in various genres such as jazz, pop, musical theater, and classical - with a bit of music theory for those who have expressed interest. Students of mine have participated in recitals and have written their own compositions. On top of private lessons, I was a Choral Music Instructor for the Massachusetts city, Chelsea, and its Community Youth Chorus. I also taught a voice class for the city of Chelsea that explored, group singing, music theory, breathing, posture, and vocal health. Read More

For older or more advanced students, I find the Guild Series to be quite effective and interesting. With these students, following their interest, we continue with sight singing, composition and improvisation. With adults, we work on what they're interested in (classical, rock, blues, gospel), but with a firm grounding in fundamentals: scales, cadences, etc. For all my students if they don't respond to one set of materials, we switch to another until we can find a good match. My biggest reward is seeing my students passionate about their voice, their instrument, their music. I focus a lot on understanding music from the piano so I feel very happy when they can demonstrate good musicianship skills in challenging settings. For this to happen I usually set up small objectives for each class and help them set new goals during their own practice time that will allow continuous improvement during our next lesson.  For example, being able to sing a 3rd with just playing the tonic or dominant notes. That’s the special part of learning an instrument or singing, especially singing is physical, because we cannot see or touch our voice as instrument. I always encourage my students to develop their passion.
