I even had a student create their own one-person show and helped them find a venue and pianist as well as coach them through their music. So it's all case-by-case. I do however encourage practice for all of my students and can work with you on making the best plan for yourself and your schedule. Lessons without practice is like hiring a personal trainer and then never going to the gym. Read More

I started teaching music lessons back when I was 14, when friends would ask for tips or lessons, and local parents wanted lessons for their children. I fell in love with the act of helping others to realize the music inside them, and have been teaching consistently ever since. Learning any musical instrument involves learning about oneself. The student and teacher must work together to define their goals, be comfortable confronting shortcomings, discover how they learn best, and find the patience and drive to practice for long enough to get better. Instruments: Piano Voice
I work with a variety of learning methods including Hal Leonard, John Thompson, Bastien, Alfred, Hanon, Czerny and Faber. I select methodology and solo repertoire to best improve my students technique while at the same time keeping their interest and enthusiasm. I also encourage music compostition, arranging and improvisation to those students who express an interest and desire to learn who to write and compose music. In addition to teaching the fundamentals of piano I try to engage with my students to learn how to make music on the piano or voice. Read More

My lesson plans are devised around each student's individual goals. Do you have a favorite musician that you want to sound like? Is there an ensemble that you are dying to play in? Through a combination of effective methods and specific structuring to your needs, I can help you achieve those goals! For double bass, I find F. Simandl's "New Method for the Double Bass" and "30 Etudes for the String Bass" to be extremely useful. Read More

I believe in acquiring a global understanding through a multiplicity of styles. Jazz and classical are my points of departure and then I incorporate different material as you develop your skills. I have several method books that I use including "Mastering Piano Technique", "Manual of Scales and Arpeggios", "The Jazz Theory Book" and "Harmony and Theory" by Keith Wyatt to name a few. For vocalists, I develop your sound to a point where we can do a full basic assessment of skills that we can build off of so we have a clear direction of where we are going. Read More
