I discovered my love of teaching in college when I was required to teach voice lessons as an assignment for my vocal pedagogy class. I was amazed at how fulfilling it was to share my knowledge and love of singing with my students. Since then, I have had the opportunity to teach singers of varying ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements , kids musical theatre collection and daffodil, violets and snowflakes. We work on Breath control, pitch and tone resonance, diction, and reading music Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. As natural as a singing voice can be it still takes effort and hard work to maintain your sound or keep yourself relevant. I self taught myself a lot. Through this self teaching I was able to help others go through the same process a little easier. I spent hours if not shut ins (days of just soaking and singing) editing and correcting my tone. Developing and finding your voice (confidence in yourself), knowing your sound/ style, and finally finding your rhythm to where even if there is no beat you can become one and be the beat is the basics before any singer can bloom. My studio stands out because I teach students of all ages. I have experience working with children as young as four years old. It is often difficult to find teachers who are willing to work with musicians at such a young age, so I make that a staple of my practice. I also stand out because I focus specifically pedagogy. Pedagogy is the studying of teaching, so for the last several years it has been my priority to learn all of the techniques in teaching and to apply those methods when working with my students. In my private lessons I emphasize building a strong foundation in rhythm, intonation, and note accuracy.  I incorporate learning theory, and playing with musical intention into every lesson to develop maturity, even in young musicians.  My students are comfortable reading music, and have all the skills they need to practice effectively.  In addition, I have prepared many musicians for successful concerts, festivals, and gigs.
