As a teacher, I have worked on vocal technique and coached audition material with many fellow actors. I have also worked with high-schoolers on material from musicals. I am a very patient, fun and challenging teacher for all skill levels.  I have small recording studio in my home that I use to make demos for my students, or record lessons and backing tracks. My approach/style to teaching is quite straight forward. My first question is often how long has the student been studying. Does he/she play another instrument? What kind of music would they like to learn? Are they taking lessons for pleasure? If they are beginners or at an intermediate level; are they taking lessons to become professional singers? I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to learning an instrument. I utilize a variety of different methods for the variety of instruments I teach (guitar, bass, piano, ukulele, voice). I like to meet with my students and get an idea of the pace in which the learn and how much effort they want to put in. For young students, I would usually start them off using Bastien Piano Basics. It's very digestible, and gives a good starting-off point for both technical playing, and larger musical concepts as a whole. With a student who is older or perhaps more advanced, who has a solid grasp on technical proficiency and music theory, I would typically recommend studying specific pieces, starting with Classical, and eventually moving into Jazz. I feel that following a chronological study of music is one of the best ways to become a well-rounded, versatile player who feels comfortable approaching any material. Read More

I do believe in the fundamentals of music and ultimately, no matter what you hear, learning music is not re-inventing the wheel. There is technique, reading music and understanding the basics of how the particular instrument works. I like the Essential Elements for Guitar or bass for guitarists and bassists and Alfred's Piano method books. Ted Reed's Guide to Syncopation is a good drum book. Ultimately I like to get the know the student as much as I can as soon as I can so I can help them get to what they want as soon as possible with a few laughs along the way. Read More

I am a multi-instumentalist/performer/teacher who loves working with students of all ages and musical backgrounds. My specialty is classical music, but I am also a singer/songwriter! I have a masters degree in Oboe Performance from the prestigious CCM, at the University of Cincinnati. I live as a freelance oboist, pianist, and vocalist in New York City, and am currently recording my first full length album.
