I work in partner with students who are enrolled in public school lessons, and incorporate their school's method book (i.e. Essential Elements 2000 or similar), as well as rudimentary exercises and pieces appropriate for their level. I am a strong advocate of Kreutzer etudes, Hrimaly scales, and Suzuki pieces as learning tools. I guide my instruction based around the students' ability, needs, and goals. I believe that learning music is a constant conversation between student, teacher, and any others involved (parents, guardians, siblings, school music teacher), and like to keep communication open with weekly notes and homework assignments recorded in a music notebook. My teaching experience dates back to my middle college years, as I began teaching private lessons part time approximately 10 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 7 years. Encouraging regular practice consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. Flash cards and memory games have proven to be extremely effective for me, and I've seen a huge change in confidence around a violin when the student isn't overwhelmed with trying to grasp many difficult concepts at once. I am extremely passionate and devoted to teaching, and love to share the incredible discovery of music-making with my students. I love spending time with people and learning what makes each unique individual tick. My studies have brought me from Bostons New England Conservatory to Europe to Los Angeles to New Yorks own Juilliard School.
