My experience in teaching began in college, teaching younger college students through my schools mentorship program. I also shadowed high school and middle school students lessons through the Hartt School Community division. I was able to learn to teach these students guided by several experienced and accomplished flute instructors. Now currently I am an adjunct flute instructor at NYU. I teach non-major flute students at NYU, which has allowed me to teach students with all different musical backgrounds and skill levels. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet
I started teaching trumpet in my Senior year of high school. As I contiued into college I learned a great deal from some of the best trumpet players in the world. I had the great pleasure of studying under Allen Vizzutti while completing my degree from the Univeristy of Washington. Gaining knowledge from great players only inspired me more to pass it onto ALL my students. Playing trumpet and making music have to be fun and enjoyable. Read More

I have a deep passion for the convergence of theory and performance, because I believe that understanding the theoretical reasons behind musical decisions opens up vast realms of experimentation and creativity. Consequently, my teaching style revolves around the marriage of music theory and performance, so that my students can learn how to build on the foundation that has been laid by the musicians who have come before us. I believe that it is the educator's duty to tailor his or her teaching to the unique learning style and needs of each student. Read More

I began teaching general music 12 years ago by presenting 45-minute programs for ages 3 yrs-14 yrs at numerous public schools in the Greater Boston Area in partnership with From the Top. These presentations had a vast range of topics and activities. With a class of 4th graders, I helped the students express their daily routine by writing and performing their own piece of music. I had a discussion with a class of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders about the story behind a Bach Sonata I performed at the beginning of the class. Read More

Having had so many teachers myself, I have a very broad understanding of what makes technique work and not work. I think developing my students ears and teaching them not only how to play music, but why music is the way it is by far the most important and invaluable part of my lessons depending upon my student's goals. If a student can understand why the songs I teach them are written the way they are, and are able to identify certain structures in a song, they then have the ability to teach themselves something I haven't yet, maybe develop their own opinions on individual songs, and even write their own! Instruments: Trumpet
For nearly all of my students, I start with Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet so that I can truly understand the students level of understanding of music and also get a grasp of their playing technique. From there, I will branch out to find something that suits both the students ability as well as their interests. Regardless of their ability, though, I always duet with my students to make them feel less pressure during lessons. Read More
