I was then invited to move back to my college town of Brookings, South Dakota to be their middle school band director. I moved to Sioux Falls and taught in the Catholic School System for a number of years. I have been playing flute since 7th grade and marching percussion since 8th grade (I am in my 3rd year in high school). I have been playing string instruments for a year and a half after taking classes in college. I have also been playing piano since I was about 10 and have picked up different instruments along the way like clarinet. The first thing I do when teaching a student is to learn what musical goals and aspirations the student may have. Then, depending on age and experience, I build a custom program for the student, which may include using various books, resources, and even materials which I have created.
