For young or beginning voice students, I like to begin with a solid foundation of intonation, body alignment, sight reading, and breath support using beginning level folk songs. The repertoire I choose is specific to each student's short-term goal and stylistic preference. For intermediate students, I focus on tone, coloration, vocal agility, diction, musicality, dynamics and performance anxiety. For beginning students on violin we start with many techniques found in the Suzuki method. From there, we jump into different styles of music while still focusing on developing solid technical foundations for the student. Once we move into standard repertoire the lessons begin to change based on what the student needs. I am a firm believer in consistent practice.
