I always explore different methods that might fit the age and personality of the student but for keyboard lessons I have found success with the Alfred Piano Method. Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. Beyond that I have a large library of supplementary music to expand the students interest with new styles and composers.I'm very flexible with the method books and after I get to know the student I can select a method that would work the best for instruction. I had my own piano studio for 5 years and I used to hold annual recital. I took a break of teaching due to relocation. I am passionate about teaching kids piano (mostly classical and a little pops) to keep them engaged. I do request consistent practice of more than 30 minutes a week for young students. It help to establish routine for them to be successful later in piano. If a students need more help, I do recommend a longer lesson (45 minutes) or twice a week lesson. Read More

My method is definitively circumstantial to the student. If the student is hoping to perform casually, then we advance at a casual pace. If the student is hoping to perform competitively, we go much faster. Either way, I hope to transfer the art into a lens that grabs the student's heart and attention, since propelling the art - regardless of life circumstance - is my primary ambition. Read More

So much can be learned from breaking a song down and looking at everything that makes it a song. At this point, I can cater lessons to meet the needs of the student. If a student wants to learn more about songwriting, using song analysis, we can identify key concepts that can be used in songwriter development. In addition to the fundamentals of music and theory, I will guide the student through the mental and emotional aspects of music as well as building listening skills so that they student can identify various musical elements (such as scale degrees) by ear. For beginning students who are children, I start with Rubank's Elementary Method book. This will provide the student with the basic fundementals. I will then introduce the student to a variety of solo repertoire for his or her instrument. I try to make my lessons as fun as possible so the child grows up with music as a fun, artistic outlet. For students who already have knowledge on their instrument or who are adults, I aim to find what the student is interested in, and adjust my instruction accordingly. Read More
