Instruments: Voice

I discovered my love for teaching voice as a graduate student taking pedagogy classes at CU Boulder. Every student brings a unique set of skills and needs to the table, I believe the best method of teaching is a flexible one, that caters to the student’s needs and goals. Teaching music is not only about notes and rhythms; it involves teaching the whole student. By taking voice lessons, the student will develop their singing skills as well as their listening skills, multi-tasking, working with others, and creative skills. Read More

Instruments: Voice

I began teaching voice over 5 years ago and have maintained a studio of singers varying in vocal style, age, and skill level. Each one has brought new challenges to me as a teacher and helped me home in on my teaching style and methods. If my students don't feel encouraged, practice on their own, or aren't having fun in lessons then I am not doing my job correctly! I love when students find songs they are passionate about singing and working on them together to make them the best possible product to present. Read More

For beginning level students of any age, I will begin lessons by going over basic fundamentals of sheet music reading (notation, connecting the instrument to the literature) and music theory that will aid them in accomplishing homework tasks independently. For experienced students, I will ask the student to demonstrate knowledge and playing to their best ability to obtain a better understanding of where to continue their studies. I will also ask all students what kind of music they are already studying and what else they would like to pick up from there (studying classical contemporary for school band with an interest in starting jazz music, etc.) I will always consider the students age and playing level to appropriately create lesson plans that will ensure growth over time. Instruments: Piano Voice

By trying to find out what inspires each student, I can customize their instruction to help develop a passion for their instrument. Nothing is more rewarding to see a student enjoy and become a confident musician! I allow each student to move at their own pace, but always challenging them so they do not become bored. Each student will need a small notebook for each week's assignments as this communicates to the student and parent what expectations have been set for the next lesson. Read More

Instruments: Guitar Voice Violin Viola Electric Violin Fiddle

When teaching strings to beginners I tend to teach out of a string methods book but I also offer stylistic direction outside of the book. I find this method helps the student with dependency of string books and helps to harbor curiosity to the vast world of music and methods beyond one book. I offer compositions fit to the level of the student and give them the opportunity to bring them up to performance standard. Read More

As a Teacher: I have operated my own private studio in New York City for the last 6 years. As a performer I have received rave reviews from the New York Post, performed with the Utah Festival Opera Company, the Powerhouse Theatre (directed Mark Brokaw, of Broadway's "Cinderella"), Colorado Light Opera, the dell'Arte Opera Ensemble, the freeFall Theatre, and the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, and am represented by Gregg Baker Management. I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student, their level of ability and age that determine the course of study. It also depends on the instrument. Some instruments like piano, violin or viola, books are more practical because the music is notated. With most fretted instruments, music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
