In 1994 Oleg Rutkovsky immigrated to USA and settled in Fort Lee, NJ. He made his American debut recital in Memphis, TN in 1995. Since 1994 he performed with such orchestras as New Jersey Symphony, Albany Symphony, New York Virtuosi Chamber Symphony, New Philharmonic of New Jersey, Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra, Bachanalia Chamber Ensemble and appeared in a few Broadway productions such "Ragtime" and "Music Man". In 1996, Oleg was invited to perform with the Houston Festival Orchestra as Concertmaster under the the button of Maxim Shostakovich, son of the the great Russian composer, Dmitry Shostakovich. My piano students generally start with Faber Piano Adventures. I assign them solo repertoire as they progress through each level in preparation for a recital performance. For the more advanced students, I introduce the fundamentals of playing jazz piano as well. I have my voice students sing through repertoire in the styles of their choice in order to have a better understanding of how their unique voice functions. For beginning students I always start by asking what they hope to gain or what attracts them to music. Having an understanding of an individuals needs is the first step. From there I follow with fundamentals using Rubank Elementary Method on their respective instrument. for someone who already has an understanding of their musical goals I accommodate my lesson plans based on their current state along with adding exercises that will help ease any difficulties they may be having. For beginners, I usually start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books and Suzuki books 1-3 and supplement them with technical exercises. Once the student is comfortable with the fundamentals, I introduce appropriate cello solos and etude books. For children, I like to assign a well-rounded repertoire from various time periods and styles. Students of all ages can request to learn music that they find exciting. With adult students, I prefer to let the student direct repertoire choices according to their particular musical passions. Read More

For beginner students, I focus heavily on fundamentals consisting of breathing, mouthpiece buzzing, long tones, slurring/tonguing exercises, and scales. I will require each student to learn at least 1 new scale each week once we've established our individualized curriculum. For more intermediate/advanced students, fundamentals are still a must, but we will also begin more challenging repertoire such a solos, etudes, orchestral excerpts, and various other advanced studies depending on the student's level.
