Having graduated from Oberlin College, studied at Berklee College of Music, toured as a keyboardist on a national hip hop tour, pursued a Kpop career in Seoul, produced and conceived of a music film in Cape Town, and currently through my teaching/composing/producing work here in New York City, I believe that my rich and diverse set of musical experiences have shaped a very hopeful and motivated musical perspective and sensibility, one which I hope to share. I believe that I have a natural talent for teaching. I was able to solve varied problems or my students. Whether it is stiff hands, bad hand position habits, inability to play polyrhythms, articulation issues, phrasing and ornaments or a general frustration at being unable to control the sound, I have demonstrated time and time again that these problems are not insurmountable. I encourage, when applicable, parent participation, their help and support but if these positives are missing, I found a way to redeem the situation and that resulted in tremendous self-esteem boost of my piano pupils. My general rule of thumb is, the younger the student, the less technique I will teach. Although I do not necessarily consider there to be a minimum age requirement for pursuing voice lessons, I do copiously encourage parents to be astutely aware of the potential risks encountered when young students are taught vocal and breathing techniques which should be reserved for intermediate or advanced students.
