As a teacher, I have worked on vocal technique and coached audition material with many fellow actors. I have also worked with high-schoolers on material from musicals. I am a very patient, fun and challenging teacher for all skill levels.  I have small recording studio in my home that I use to make demos for my students, or record lessons and backing tracks. I have found that teaching is the best way to help others find that same kind of satisfaction and happiness in their lives. In 2013 I graduated with my masters degree in vocal performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. For small children, I used kid-friendly method books provided by the music school I was working with at the time to keep them engaged and entertained. For older children and adults, I simply ask about their prior musical knowledge and the music that they enjoy so we could use that as inspiration. For beginning students, I recommend the Standard of Excellence or Essential Elements which are both great options for the basics of their instruments and both include fingering charts and fingerings for each new note they learn. With beginning students, I will lay out all of the fundamentals, teaching all of the scales, basic chords, key signatures and time signatures, and gradually integrate strategies for reading music. Depending on what the student is interested in learning, I will pull from my pool of repertoire - we could be studying a Bach Invention at the same time as a Billy Joel song. Classical music is great for technique and in many ways textbook for teaching harmony, but I play and love contemporary music, and will teach anything, as long as there is some form of musical knowledge to be gained from the material. I also performed in theaters across the US with the National Touring Company of "Les Miserables". In the concert scene, I have performed with The Cincinnati symphony and been a guest soloist with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops and the North Carolina Philharmonic. I have also sung in numerous concerts in NYC at venues such as Feinstein’s 54 Below, Town Hall, Merkin Hall, Ars Nova and The Laurie Beachman Theater. Read More

The lesson starts with Awareness Through Movement (ATM) applying the Feldenkrais Method to get the student in a state where the mind-body learns new possibilitites of movement, making the body feel more comfortable and expanded. It is a first "tuning" before working directly with the sounding voice. Breathing excercises and vocal technique are to continue. I love teaching and sharing my passion of singing with my students. I, however, never want to pressure a student to go in one director or push them too far too fast. The best way to learn is at your own pace. I make vocal warm ups tailored to each students needs and I do encourage them to try these out at home.
