I have performed in groups that have toured, I have completed three full national tours coaching young students, I maintain my professional studio and have been very fortunate to have some great teachers and opportunites that have greatly contributed to my career. I've been playing music my entire life (my mom claims she had me playing 9 months before I was even born!) and I started playing professionally when I was 14. To say I love drums and percussion would be a profound understatement. I've played professionally at many times throughout my life, but I really don't differentiate my professional experiences from all of the musical experiences I've had. Some gigs are wonderful and some not so much. Read More

To make the learning experience fun and engaging. I first introduce concepts; then connect to well known songs and music that allow you to understand and appreciate the vital concepts and themes being illustrated. Together we set realistic goals, learn from where we may have missed the mark, and celebrate our achievements. This allows me to tailor your lesson so that you may gain the absolute most at of each and everyone. Read More

For students who are beginners, I usually start with the Hal Leonard Essential Elements 2000 books. Not only are they a great source for fingering charts and basic instrument fundamentals, but they also offer great full band exercises in band balance and togetherness as well. Once the beginner student learns more fingerings and is able to read music from the book faster, I will give the student beginner etudes and studies to build their embouchure and fingering skills. I have always aspired to be a versatile drummer. Growing up I idolized drummers like Steve Gadd, Steve Jordan, Dennis Chambers, and many of the jazz and latin greats. I learned how to play many styles of music along the way including: jazz, soul, funk, rock, pop, blues, salsa, samba, candombe, afro-beat, reggae, symphonic percussion, and the avante garde. I am a strong believer in developing solid reading skills, learning and listening to many styles of music, and playing improvisationally. Read More

Most of my experience with teaching has taken place while traveling on the road and helping individuals prepare for recording sessions. However for more than 10 years now, I've rendered my services at neighborhood schools (elementary and high school); music workshops; private homes; and local churches; working with young people as an assistant teacher, private music teacher and/ or teaching artist. The greatest lessons I have ever taught and that I believe that I can ever teach, are the importance of observation, listening, proper application and the embracing of patience while enjoying the process. I started teaching while in college, beginning in 1987 and gradually progressed to teaching as a career in 1994. I have taught at the collegiate level at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. I have also taught award-winning drumlines at Calvert Hall College, Lansdowne High School and Dulaney High School, all in the Baltimore metropolitan area. I have taught students of a wide age range, including students as young as 5 to older adults in their 60's and 70's. Read More
