2012 - Vic Firth Education Team
I am an active performing musician and independent educator and have been for almost ten years now. I maintain a professional performance schedule and it is important for me as I grow professionally to gain the experience to help teach the students I gain along the way. I went into college as a Music Education major but came out with a performance degree because I wanted to be doing more beyond a classroom. I have performed in groups that have toured, I have completed three full national tours coaching young students, I maintain my professional studio and have been very fortunate to have some great teachers and opportunites that have greatly contributed to my career. I graduated with my degree in Music Performance and have been very fortunate to have accomplished everything I have so far with new opportunities eing presented each week. I believe that music and arts education teach us more than the value of learning to play an instrument and it directly affects my reason that I choose to teach because beyond my passion for music I feel I have so much to offer through what I have gained.
I have been teaching music and instructing percussion for about ten years now, I started as I entered into a college music degree program and have been fortunate to work with so many students from all over the country. Currently I teach lessons in a private school, in Pennsylvania, I maintain a private studio independently, instruct scholastic percussion ensembles, present music education clinics in schools and work through two internationally recognized touring non-profit organizations that teach high level music performance. Music education is important to me and I love to give back to others that are looking to learn. My students have come from all ages and backgrounds, if you are just starting day one or if your looking to learn something new I have the confidence in my continual growing experience as a professional to work and help anyone. It is important for me that my students enjoy what they are doing and I feel I capture the excitement of learning music in a way that doesn't feel like work and most importantly help accomplish your goals each week.
I have a library of material that I use to teach instrument fundamentals, solo repertoire, rudimental vocabulary and most important music theory and language. Goals vary from student to student, I am here to help exceed those goals as well as having everyone walk away feeling accomplished and comfortable with their weekly efforts. The big picture is to make sure that the students I teach perform their music well but over time and in good practice become confident and comfort with the language of music. I work to make sure each lesson is catered to the interest of the students or goals from the parents and everyone walks away feeling well engaged and accomplished. Finally, for parents and individuals, each one of my lessons are logged and forwarded through email so that you can stay engaged, follow along and see what it is we are accomplishing each and every week.
It is important for everyone to feel like I am someone they can work comfortably with me, I have everyone set short term and long terms goals and I develop a program that works towards that. I set a good pace for everyone individually that is challenging but always motivating and encouraging to learn more. My job is to help you accomplish your musical wants, push you to new levels and I am always open to new goals. I know that everyone works at a different pace but I am confident in my experience to cater to that and help you succeed, stay motivated and help you further your passion for music along the way. I am a very personable individual and I work great with students of all ages, music is my passion and I love the job of giving back to anyone that share the same passion in pursuit of learning music.
