I was teaching children age from 8-14 at Municipal Higher Education Establishment of Choreographic Arts and also give private vocal lessons to students from age 25-68. I love working with beginners because they are open for new experience and ready to receive information. When I meet a student, I take notes on what kind of music they like, what their goals are, and why they feel like voice lessons are the best way for them to achieve that goal. From there I take the pace at whatever the student is comfortable with occasionally pushing it a little bit if progress seems to be too slow. During my employment with Sallie B. Howard School for the Arts and Education (in Wilson, NC) where I introduced a marching band program and lead the band to winning second place in the Music in the Parks competition in May of 2015. During my internship I was able to develop a percussion line with the students in under a month. The formation and level of proficiency of the percussion section was so astonishing that administrators, staff, other teachers, and even the principal dropped in from time to time just to hear the progression of the ensemble. For beginning piano students, I use a combination of books from Alfred's, Faber, John Thompson's. At the same time, I emphasize proper finger technique, shape, and position. For more advanced piano students I prefer exercises from Hanon, Czerny, and Bartk. For beginning guitar students, I prefer Mel Bay books. However, for guitar students I also use a much more individual and custom approach for learning how to get a good sound out of the guitar through proper hand position, finger placement and pressure, and string picking.
