Singing is a joyfull, fun way to grow as a person and as an artist. It takes concentration and focus, though and a willingness to try out new things and very importantly: patience with oneself. As the musical director for my college A Cappella group, there was an element of vocal teaching for new and existing members. We learned new song arrangements as a group, rather than assigning parts and having singers learn at home. Conversely, they taught me! It was a great collaboration. Here is how we will progress:   1. Warm up with exercises for intonation, rhythm, breathing and learning to sustain a long note. A good singer must be able to hold a long note. 2. During my lessons, I like to create an environment free of judgment, embarrassment, inhibition, self-doubt, and any other emotion or thought, internal or external that is going to deter my students from becoming the best singers possible. Im always open to try different techniques and approaches in order to allow my students to open to me and to the music. For beginning piano students, I use the method books from Faber's Piano Adventures series. If the student gets bored with one method book, I will mostly likely top it off with something else from Alfred. I stress mostly on counting proper rhythm, learning alphabets, and finger numbers for early age groups. For intermediate students, I would expect students toalreadybe able to read music aside from the rhythm challenges.
