I structure my lessons so that each student knows exactly what to expect each week. We begin with Warmups, Scales, Technique, Sight-reading in piano and/or voice. Then we move onto the literature, checking posture for both Voice and Piano. We recap, at the end of each lesson, so that any questions may be answered. I am passionate about students not only exploring musical styles but really understanding every aspect of the music they are learning, including the history of the musical style, the composers and the more well known performers. It is important to me that each student comprehends the details of each new piece they learn including, the specific fingering required, the details of the rhythms, dynamics and composer's directions and markings. My first lesson is a casual meeting with the student (child/parent, or adult). I want to both meet and start to develop a good relationship and understanding with all involved. With younger students I talk with the parent and show them what we are working on and the logic behind it. Of course, this strategy applies to adults as well. Depending on each student, no matter what level and age you are. I like to listen to your best possible ability first, then determine a plan tailored for you to improve your skills and ability. Also, I stress on fundamentals quite a lot. So, there will be heavy trainings focused on the fundamentals, such as long tone, scales, arpeggios, thirds, articulations.
