With beginning students, I will start with the basics and encourage them to buy A Modern Method for Guitar by William Leavitt. Starting out, students will work on chords and scales. We will also work on building a repetoire of songs for the student to work on perform. Intermediate students will work on the fundamentals of theory, triads, beginner 7th chords, and improvasation. Advanced students will work on expanding their knowledge of theory, inversions, technique building, chord tensions and substitution. Read More

I've been teaching for 10+ years now. I work mostly with beginner to intermediate adults and particularly enjoy someone discovering they can learn an instrument later in life. I love helping someone learn their first song as much as helping them work their way up to a holy grail song. I've helped a mother play a classical piece to accompany her son at a recital. I've helped someone finally nail the songs they spent 50 years trying to play well. Read More

Instruments: Piano Flute Piccolo

I love teaching private lessons, and I have 12 years of experience doing so.  I have been playing flute for 26 years, and I earned my Bachelor's in Music Education and Flute Performance from SUNY Fredonia, and my Master's degree in Flute Performance from the Hartt School. I have performed with many different performers and ensembles including: the Chelsea Symphony, SEM Ensemble, Hartt Independent Chamber Orchestra, the Long Island flute ensemble, jazz bass legend, Nat Reeves, the Jalapeño Quartet, traditional Irish harpist Hailey Hewitt, guitarist Oren Fader, and the Alturas Duo.  I have performed at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, for Composer's Voice Concert Series, the Connecticut Guitar Society, many public libraries, the Windsor Historical Society, the New Britain Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, Windsor Art Center, and the Wadsworth Museum of Art, among others. Instruments: Cello

I do not use any particular "methods" of teaching, although I did begin out on Suzuki. And while I do believe this is an important methodogy, Suzuki does have its flaws as do most of its kind. As I mentioned earlier, theory, harmony, and music history (as rudimentary as they may be at the beginning) are crucial for all students regardless of their level. The more one knows about the piece, the easier it will be to interpret and understand what the composer is asking for. Read More

I love teaching beginners of any age including special needs students. Most importantly, I will help you learn to play the music you LOVE and stay motivated. I specialize in Adult Beginners and am happy to teach students aged 9 to 109! I worked as a professional musician in New York City for several years and played in numerous Salsa bands, a Ska band—and small classical groups.    I also led a group called The Triple Trouble Trombone Trio and a 12 piece Salsa band called “Profundo” as well as a 9 piece Salsa/Middle Easter R&B Hybrid band called “Havana Gila” Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
