For my first lessons I teach the notes of the guitar and some simple chords. I like to find out beforehand what the students are most interested in learning. Then I gather pieces from my students based on what they are interested in and teach them these pieces. I did not specificly stick to particular music series in the market as I believe it is best to choose the music books that match with the age, personality and learning style of a student. I had started with Alfred, Faber and Hal Leobard for my young beginners. I will also introduce students with Suzuki methods if I think this is a better fit.As for later or adult beginners, I used Faber, Alfred, and John Thompson series as the starting material, and give instructions along with the students' interest. Along with demonstrating to the student certain technical and sonic patterns in their use of the instrument, this repeated process also allows me to identify a concrete path forward that is based uniquely on that student's apparent learning style, tastes, and current technical limits.
