I am a dedicated and determined voice teacher, with a passion rooted in the desire to develop a healthy vocal technique. In 2022, I graduated with my Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from Binghamton University. Over the past ten years, I have spent time performing on stage in concerts, operas, and musical theatre. For beginning students who are children (3-7 years old), I typically start with the nice songs, which involve dance, animal sounds, musical games, simple percussion instruments, clapping, funny- playful movements. With the older children (8-14) we start learning staff, keys, music notes, basic scales, more complex songs, but still keep the playfulness. If I teach in person - I usually play guitar, so I can move with the students. Teenagers (15-18) are abe to set their own goals, but they're still following the basic music theory approach. My method is very personalized to the student. For piano, I love using the Faber Piano Adventure series for both little ones through adult. They do an excellent job formatting their age-appropriate materials to students and get them playing and learning to read music early on in the learning. For voice, I devise my own warm up exercises that tailor to the needs of the student. To begin with, I teach my students how to develop their own warm up method which includes breathing and stretching, vocalizations and good old fashioned solfege. You will learn to understand your own vocal mechanism and how it resonates, as well as how breath support works, and their effects on the singing voice. I began teaching over 20 years ago with a focus on early childhood and beginning piano lessons. I have had great success working with young students by providing a variety of activities each lesson and making sure that learning music is a joyful experience. Music theory, ear training, flash cards and rhythm exercises with percussion instruments are just a few examples of lesson activities that are included in addition to the core elements of proper technique and music literacy. In each lesson the student and myself work to make goals for them to accomplish every week and discuss discuss the ways they might be able to go about accomplishing the goals. Sometimes I will make audio recordings of a student to track progress. For a student to sit and really listen to the improvemnets they have made I find to be one of my best teaching tools. To see a student smile over their happiness over music and their continuous progress and enjoyment makes me love what I do so very much. Read More
