ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Bachelor Degree: University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Overview:

I am a passionate and motivated voice and piano instructor who loves working and meeting new students! I began singing in the 4th grade in the musical “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”! It was my very first time ever being on stage, and ever getting to sing a solo. The thrill of sharing my love for music is something I will share and hold with me forever. I will be graduating in 5 days with my BMUS focus in Jazz Vocal Performance. While my degree has a jazz focus, I consider myself to be very diverse in many other genres of musical styles.

EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience has began more recently, but I am a teacher who has had the opportunity to be in school learning new things, while being able to also pass down my discoveries with students. I've also found that a combination of classical, modern, and jazz music can go a long way in helping students enjoy their musical experiences. It's important to make sure my students are staying motivated and always learning more than one genre. Singing the same things all the time can get boring! It's also just way more fun!

METHODS USED

For my jazz students, I always start them off singing simple standard tunes that many people are familiar with. I have access to every jazz real book, and have many different lead sheets to tunes that aren't even included in them. I also have access to many different musical theatre books for all different voice types. I'm working on getting more piano books in my library, but I am a friend to many professional pianist that are able to provide a variety of texts to me which helps me more than I know.

LESSON STYLE

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I like to go slow at first and see how things go lesson by lesson. I never like to challenge my students too much in the beginning because it can be rather frustrating to continue learning music. I also believe theory is very important and will ALWAYS include this in my teaching. Ear training is also another form of music learning I consider to be extremely important.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
