I began teaching privately three years ago after earning both of my BM degrees from the University of Connecticut. Many students I have taught have numerous activities such as ensembles, sports teams, church, and other commitments. This is why I encourage students to practice daily with efficient techniques so they are able to continue to improve during their busy schedules. Also, I make an effort for my students to have fun in their lessons while having constructive criticism so the students are not discouraged and stay engaged. Read More

My mom was a Carnatic music teacher. I had once subbed for her when she was late coming from work. It was fun teaching her students. My mom also worked with children with special needs. I have watched her work and I got inspired by her. I wanted to go into Music Therapy after seeing her work, as well as the experiencing of assisting her. I have had a troubled childhood, and music helped me. Read More

I began teaching as soon as I could. My dad held piano lessons out of our house and inspired me to teach guitar (the only instrument my dad wasn't terribly good at). I also taught trumpet, French horn and piano throughout high school. When I got to college, no one at Berklee really needed lessons in instruments anymore, however, I spent a lot of time tutoring kids in Music Theory, Arranging and other more technical aspects of music. I have played in venues from small coffee houses to The Paramount in Huntington, NY. I have played in many groups and ensembles as a premier performer and, of course, as part of the "tutti". I have studied under Micheal Bellajonas at Suffolk County Community College and Jerry Willard at Stony Brook University in my classical guitar studies. I maintain a violin/guitar duet with my wife, who is on her way to becoming a music educator. I've taught all different types of students and am very open and patient to everyone's needs. Read More

Individual classes are always going to become personalized since thats the time when you can really focus on your own goals which pretty much vary as much as people do so i would have to say that my approach would depend on what the student wants to get out of the instrument and what he/she wants to learn. An understanding of the fundamentals is usually wise so i always encourage the students to take a more dogmatic approach to the instrument since thats what has worked for me, now being that said it would't be the first or last time that we see a guitar player master his instrument by ear like we've seen with greats like Jimi Hendrix, Robert Johnson and B.B King so to restrain a student from a more popular approach would be naive and time has taught me to mingle in both styles of learning since either way it is required a lot of discipline and practice. I believe, that learning music should be enjoyable, rather than stressful. I focuses not just on reading music and playing the notes, but also aural theory, playing without tension both mentally and physically, and understanding the music on an artistic and personal level. Read More

I would say words like ENERGETIC, DILIGENT, INTELLECTUAL and SUPPORTIVE are words that would describe my teaching style. Nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing one of my students develop a practice and passion for music! I encourage student's by setting realistic goals at each stage. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More
