It's important to me that students are invested in their own lessons, and what this means will differ from student to student. For some five year olds, that may be simply participating in the whole lesson and practicing a few minutes per week. For others, it may mean being challenged with advanced materials. Each student will receive a unique repertoire and lesson based on ability and interests. I focus on technique, then repertoire, then theory, then review for a 30 minute lesson, and younger students will often get a fun music-based game at the end if the lesson has been fruitful. For young beginner students, I use either Faber and Faber's Piano Adventures or Bastien Piano Basics. I also supplement these methods with level-appropriate materials from my private library. For adult students, lessons are tailored to meet the student's interests and purpose. Lesson times are learning times, but I try to make the process fun, with time for creativity and music games. Students are also encouraged to bring in music that they want to learn, which gives me additional opportunies to teach each student how to practice. Read More

After studying jazz performance at the University of New Orleans under the tutelage of jazz icon Ellis Marsalis, I attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston being awarded the Best Entering Student Talent scholarship in '02 and the Berklee Achievement-based Scholarship in '02, '03 and '04 graduating with honors in 2005 with a Major in Bass Performance. I always introduce my students, no matter the age, to the Vaccai Vocal Methods book. This book has many exercises that takes the singer through all of the facets of their voice, and helps them hone their skills.
