Since then, I have taught students from middle schoolers to retirees, from beginning students learning to match pitch to advanced students taking professional auditions and winning national awards. After students have passed through the fundamentals, we will work out of the Rubank intermediate or advanced books for technique development. For beggining students, I start with fundamentals, holding the guitar/pick, posture, and then start with some tremolo (up and down) picking patterns, a few basic open chords, a basic scale, and then pick a simple song to learn. As, we progress, I try to evolve with the student, getting more specialized in whatever genre they are leaning towards, all the while teaching songs and helping them to learn what they like. After college I played professionally in Nashville. Later I spent 3 years traveling full-time through out the United States playing trumpet in several different music groups. Following that I moved back to Nashville and played as a free-lance musician, including as a recording studio musician and contractor.
