I am student-oriented teacher. I would like the student to explain their goals to me and we will work as a team to achieve those goals. This involves choosing the music to be studied. I have plenty of ideas for beginners who want help with choosing books. Then as lessons progress, student goals can be plugged I to instruction, no matter what music they are playing or singing. I encourage students to play for family and friends, and participate in music education events. Read More

I take careful consideration of each students personality, learning style, and goals as I approach my teaching methods for lessons. I love working with neurodivergent students and finding unique ways to help them focus and retain information during lessons. I am encouraging of progress and try my best to keep students motivated. I doubt you will be very happy about it in the long run. On the other hand, even very simple goals, when pursued with love, almost always provide a bedrock of UNIVERSAL musical information, no matter what form the goal might take. In other words, anything you want to work on musically will teach you more than JUST a specific song or piece; and I consider it my job to help you see just how much of a treasure is waiting under the surface, which you can then use for all other pieces of music you explore in the future. David does not use a "cookie-cutter" method because each and every student has different innate abilities as well as different musical goals. A teaching method must consider the student's time outside of his or her lesson to be effective. David listens to each student with great care to devise a plan which promotes musicality through inspiration. Conveying large amounts of information, even of the highest quality, is of little value if the student is not motivated to use what he or she has learned to create music. Read More

For me, nothing is more satisfying than watching a student progress with the work he or she has put in. My teaching style clearly shows the students that if they are not putting in the work by themselves at home, they will not progress. Besides, learning the guitar does involve playing it every single day. I always encourage my students to play for at least half an hour every single day. Read More

My philosophy lies in structure - such as teaching in appropriate amounts that are challenging, but not overwhelming. I will always ask students what they're interested in learning and work that into the lesson. But the main focus for beginners is to be comfortable with the fretboard and to have fun. I break lessons down into technique, theory, and whatever the student is particularly wanting to learn. I particularly like to pull from the Berklee Press or Musician's Institute books, as they are well received. Read More

I have taught privately off and on through-out the years in several cities that I've lived in. I like to challenge students but not expect more than they are able to deliver. I like to concentrate and focus on the basics of playing while expanding on the students ability. I believe strongly in a good daily warm-up and daily routine. I believe that with 30-45 minutes of daily practice time, any student can see noticeable, continual improvement. Read More
