Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire on sheet music appropriate for their level of performance. I see the participation in playing musical instruments as much of a fun activity as it is a physical and mental workout. After receiving my Associate in Science in Music I went straight into a studio and started teaching a range of students from 4 - 24 years old, and from the never-picked-up-an-instrument-before to I-can't-wait-for-the-competition levels. While it is important to correct errors in order to be able to learn, i think it is equally if not more important to focus on a students accomplishments. Setting realistic goals is also important when working with students. For children, I will continue through the method book series while supplementing it with short popular pieces that may be of interest to the student.
