I teach both the Classical and Suzuki methods. I have students of all ages so it varies which student is learning which method. The best for children is the Suzuki method that is widely used in the USA. Classical methods can be used when I teach young adults and adults. I have played in community orchestras in Broward County such as the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra, Florida Youth Orchestra, and All-County Silver Gold Broward Orchestras for 5 years. From 2015-2016, I attended Coral Glades High School, where I became the youngest concertmaster in the orchestra as a freshman, and started teaching orchestra students as a freshman. Typically, if a student is brand new we will start with learning the basics of the violin and reading music using various excerpts and hands on experience. I like to begin the first lesson by recognizing the students strengths by having them show me what they can accomplish on their own. There are specific books that I like to teach out of depending on the skill level so that needs to be addressed during the first lesson. Recognizing and building on strengths to me should come before criticising weaknesses. Those will be addressed as they come along and exercises with scales and etudes will be chosen for those weaknesses, but that does not mean that challenging music needs to be played each and every time so that the student has to struggle for greatness. Back when I was in Venezuela, I was playing in my city's orchestra the entire time from 2002 to 2018. In that orchestra, which is a part of the renowned "El Sistema". El Sistema is a system that helps underserved communities get the music knowledge they would otherwise not be able to get. We had different levels of orchestras, from beginners to advanced.
