For beginning students I usually start with Essential Elements 2000 for strings because it helps them get familiarized with the notes on the music staff even when they don't have any music theory knowledge. I also like to use Suzuki as they progress with the instrument and know the essentials like how to hold the instrument properly and how to hold the bow properly. On a first lesson, i will assess where you or your student is in terms of playing ability, based on that we can decide what comes next. Typically, if a student is brand new we will start with learning the basics of the violin and reading music using various excerpts and hands on experience. I like to approach teaching in a relaxed style. I find students do better when they are relaxed and comfortable. I love to see my students gain excitement to their playing as they see themselves progressing. I plan my assignments based on the students desire to improve. The more they improve the more their desire for playing is fueled. For beginning students, I use the Trevor Wye beginning books and supplement with solos, etudes, songs and exercises that I give them which are appropriate for their level. For more advanced students, I will use etudes and methods/ solos which are appropriate for their level. For adults, I will find their interests and select a course of study with them.  With all students, I will assist with their school music or any ensemble/ solo music they wish. I have been teaching piano since High School and have learned a lot since then; both in my personal studies and from my many students. Each student teaches me a new perspective on music and piano, inspiring me to further refine my craft as a teacher and player. I first started teaching how to play guitar and giving music lessons when I began to go to college, I used to teach as a part time job while I was studying, when I've graduated I switched from part time to full time, I've worked in several music institutions and I'd also given private classes, nowadays I devote this by doing more private classes in students homes and online, maybe soon I'll have my own studio to teach where I can bring my students into a more comfortable environment with more teaching tools for the learning process.
