On a first lesson, i will assess where you or your student is in terms of playing ability, based on that we can decide what comes next. Typically, if a student is brand new we will start with learning the basics of the violin and reading music using various excerpts and hands on experience. For beginning students who are children, it would be about really listening to notes, begin to emulate the sound of a note, in keeping it simple, with learning breathing techniques to protect the vocal cords and understanding the process of Diaphragmatic Breathing. For adults, it would be about finding their voice, breathing techniques as well, and performance ideas. for beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard books. This communicates the basics of the instrument very well. I also incorporate scales and chords. After the student develops his or her reading, kinesthetic, technique, and ear I give them a standard classical piece. For Adults, I evaluate their level and goals at the lesson. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Suzuki Method and playing by ear. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire on sheet music appropriate for their level of performance. It is important to stress the fundamentals of technique for my beginner students before just playing music.
