From there I can make a proper study plan for them as an induvidual, which is paramount in helping achieve the students expectations. For beggining students, I start with fundamentals, holding the guitar/pick, posture, and then start with some tremolo (up and down) picking patterns, a few basic open chords, a basic scale, and then pick a simple song to learn. As, we progress, I try to evolve with the student, getting more specialized in whatever genre they are leaning towards, all the while teaching songs and helping them to learn what they like. For students who are just starting out, I start with basic finger and breath support exercises. Once these become ingrained in the student's mind, I will introduce various excerpts based on their skill level, eventually working our way into solo repertoire. For students that have a few years under their belt, I prefer to get a grasp on what their strength and weaknesses are to assess what I can be of service, to select the solo or excerpt book that would best help improve their already developing talents. I was introduced to Live Therapeutic Music for health over 15 years ago and received a partial scholarship to the MHTP school (Music for Healing Transition School) in Clearwater, Florida. I graduated in 2007 from the MHTP school as a C.M.P. (Certified Music Practitioner - Therapeutic Musician) I hold a B.A. degree from UCF in Orlando, Fla. in Education. I was also hired by Nickelodean Studios in Orlando to play the flute for actress Melissa Joan Hart for one of her shows in her TV series; "Clarissa Explains it All."
