Nothing is more rewarding than seeing how your student progress, develop a passion and knowledge for music . I like to set realistic goals for each individual student who can progress at his or her own pace.It is very important for them to master basic knowledge of theory, technique, and sight reading in music. I like them to have a deceiplene in music; practice regularly, steady attendance.ask questions immediately when something is not clear, pay attention to fingering, count out loud to get the rhythm right. The goal is to supply students with the tools and the knowledge to be successful and also to facilitate an environment of growth. As we progress through lessons, I will challenge students with weekly and even monthly goals. I've realized every student has a different way of learning, and the methods will cater to the individual. For instance, students who learned mostly by ear can learn about theory. We can begin by identifying whether a scale is major or minor, but first we need to know that major generally sounds brighter/happy and minor usually sounds darker/sad. Read More

I like to find out why my students are interested in playing music. This helps me to create a lesson plan for each individual one. I like to start out teaching using Alfred's beginner books, and progress from there. Each student learns at a different pace, so I base my lessons off of their progress. I have found that doing this helps keep the student motivated and encouraged in the process of learning their given instrument. Read More

I always ask students, both young and old, if they have goals they would like to work towards in lessons, and I then tailor lessons to help students achieve their goals. I listen to a students interests as well, and incorporate more into the lessons that will motivate and keep lessons fun, whether that is adding in time for composition/songwriting, learning how to play pop chords on the piano, or mixing in Disney/appropriate pop songs as well as classical and musical theater selections! I start all of my beginning students in John Thompson Book One as it provides a great base to build on. After that lessons become very personalized to the student's learning styles as well as their individual goals. Adult beginners I supplement with Faber. I aim to get all of my students playing "real" music very quickly without sacrificing solid technique and fundamentals. I tend to spend half of a lesson on drills and half working on songs. Read More
