For younger students I start with showcasing what they can achieve with practice and perseverance. I do that by showing my playing. Then we start with the chromatic scale so the fingers can get use to the strings and moving around the fretboard. Same with drums but we start with easy hits and patterns. For adults I would talk about what are their interest and goal in music (genre, style, job, etc) and go from there. Read More

For piano I prefer Faber Piano Adventures and have different books I would recommend starting with depending on the students age and experience. For guitar and ukulele I prefer using the Hal Leonard method books. I often supplement these method books with outside sources and pieces as is appropriate for the student. For singing students, I have a wide variety of books and resources depending on the musical style. I come from a classical voice background, so when students are middle school age and older (sometimes earlier) we begin learning Italian Art songs in addition to musical theater pieces and English folk songs. I've had the experience and privilege of teaching students ranging from 5 years olds to adults in their 60's during the past 7 years. The core philosophy of teaching music lessons for me is that inspiration and motivation in a music lesson come from finding enjoyment and reward from the learning process. I've worked with students to develop better sight-reading skills, performance etiquette, improvisation, recording techniques, proper form, and posture, and marketing strategies, to help get your music heard when you feel ready and proud enough to share it with others. I have 23 years of teaching experience in a variety of settings. I enjoy working with students of all ages. Music is an international language that has brought me many wonderful life experiences. In addition to classroom and private instruction, I compose my own music. I perform regularly at folk venues and festivals. My classical music training and my love for Broadway have influenced my writing. My musician friends call my genre 'theatrical folk.' I enjoy sharing my knowledge and love of music with my students. I'm guitarist who loves teaching and sharing my affinity for music. I graduated from Florida State University in 2016 with a BA in Music, emphasizing classical guitar. Originally starting as a rock player, my palette was expanded through learning classical guitar. Not only did I learn a new style, I learned new principles that made me an overall better player through the program. From there I performed with guitar and folk ensembles in a variety of locations in Tallahassee, FL. Read More

My teaching experience is still in the early stages because of how busy I was during my school career at Seminole a State College with performing and schoolwork. During my three years at Seminole State, I performed with the guitar ensemble, the Jazz Band, a Jazz Vocal group, performed multiple recitals, played with a student led jazz quintet that gigged around the Sanford and Lake Mary area, and became the music theory tutor for the music program.
