At first, students may require a lot of assistance to get through the material, but as they progress, I teach with the intention that they will one day be able to look at a piece and teach themselves without assistance from me. This can take quite a long time and usually requires years of dedication and study. I encourage students to understand the music theory behind the songs they play so its about a lot more than simply memorizing notes on their instrument. Read More

My first music instruction job was at a summer day camp. I was 19. I taught group guitar lessons. I've been teaching private music lessons ever since. I, myself, had wonderful public school music teachers as well as private instruction in piano and voice. I teach my students what I was taught. No matter what kind of music the student wishes to learn, knowledge of music theory must be taught through the materials being studied. Read More

After getting a clear idea, I begin to look over the basic fundamentals of the guitar with the student. We either do this through beginner exercises I know from books that I have used throughout the years to learn and teach or just basic general exercises that I may have in mind. Examples of these books include: Troy Stetina Series, Hal Leonard Guitar Method, etc... After that, we would slowly move our way through more fundamentals and even check out some basic music theory (notes on the fretboard, basic chords and finger positioning, beginner scales, etc...) For intermediate students, I usually ask the student to play one of the best pieces he or she knows. Read More

My style is relaxed, making sure not to cause any stress from overpracticing or the worst--teaching in an intimidating tone. I put myself in the students shoes in order to understand what particular skills need to have more attention put towards them. I may seem difficult to tutor through video, so I have earbuds with a boom microphone to ensure I can hear you as clearly as possible and you can hear my voice as clearly also. Read More

My teaching method is very keen to diagrams. In my experience, it can be hard to visualize some of the terminology that is provided my teachers. Using diagrams helps to put the instructors words into a more visual format. I also like teaching through some of the students favorite songs, it really helps keep the student interested in the lesson as a whole. Read More
