ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

Bachelors of Music Education, University of Delaware

Overview:

I am an extremely motivated and passionate teacher whose main focus is for the student to have fun playing a string instrument.  My goal is to instill music in the hearts of many people while training them for the skills necessary to produce such music.  I graduated from the University of Delaware in 2010 and have been teaching in public schools for 5 years.

EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 11 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students ever since.  I am a public schools orchestra director who has taught in 2 school distrcits in New Jersey and now will be teaching in the Orange County Public Schools.  I always emphasize regular practice on a consistent schedule as it helps the student progress and gain a passion for music and the instrument.  I've also found that a combination of classical and popular music can go a long way in helping students enjoy any string instrument and motivate them to practice and continue to learn.  If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I am not doing my job! I thoroughly believe in the practice cycle. If a student practices well, they get better, they want to play more, and they practice more.  If a student does not practice, they don't get better, they don't want to play  more, and they don't practice more. I am always looking to bring on new students of all ages!

METHODS USED

For any student, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements series.  This method book will help teach the basic fundamentals needed to progress on the instrument.  For children, I will continue through the method book series while supplementing it with short popular pieces that may be of interest to the student.  For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep it fun and enjoyable.

LESSON STYLE

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing that musical spark ingnited in a student.  Every student has different interests and different learning styles.  Therefore, I make it my number one priority to accomodate the student's learning needs.  Each lesson, we will set small attainable goals that can be achieved each week in order to help fuel a student's desire to progress and continue practicing.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
