My methods vary according to the student's level and experience. I provide a clear lesson plan complete with goals, achievement levels, and performances. * For kids: All the kids feel like rock stars because I make sure each lesson is both fun and enriching. When teaching kids I use a song based teaching system so they are learning songs they love while they get the academic benefits of music. * For teenagers and adults aiming for professionalism: I push my students to develop sophisticated hand and foot techniques, working rudiments on the pad and applied to the kit. I've found that keeping an open mind about methods is really helpful when dealing with beginning students, young and old. I've tought from various method series including Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Emily Wright's A Modern Cellist's Manual, Muller Rusch, and more. While I'm not a certifited Suzuki instructor, I do teach from the Suzuki method when students or parents request it. What's important is matching the right method to the right student which I tend to determine at our initial lesson. Read More

One of the most important factors in determining a teacher's legitimacy is their professional teaching experience. I can confidently say that along with my extensive training, education, and music industry credentials, I have 6 years of professional experience teaching every possible age, skill, and instrument combination. My most recent job involved teaching up to 35 students a week on beginner-advanced piano, vocals, guitar, drums, songwriting, and bass. Many of my students have been with me since I started there two and a half years ago. Read More

Once I get an idea for my student's level based on the trial lesson, I build a curriculum specifically for their needs. I have a personal library of music and exercises that I cater to needs of each individual. I do my best to always keep in mind the specific goals of my student whether they are studying to develop skills for school bands/orchestra, marching band, recitals, real world gigs and auditions, or just for fun! My aim is to motivate, inspire, challenge and empower you to become the best version of yourself. I firmly believe that the best way to get the best out of the lessons is to communicate and be open to listening to what each other have to say. More importantly, I feel its the responsibility of the instructor to listen to the student, their goals, needs, dreams and help them get there through whichever method necessary. Read More

The best way of teaching is the one that makes your student develop a honest passion for music. While there's a core of exercises and practice routines that I teach to everyone, I have great respect for the peculiar interests of the single students and I introduce studies and repertoire that are close to their musical tastes and sensibility so that they'll feel accomplished and rewarded by realizing how their technical studies is helping them to play the music they love. I cater my teaching curriculums to the student's interest and proficiency level. The first lesson would involve a discussion about what initially drew the student to the guitar, what genres they love, and what they hope to get out of the class. Next, we will go through the fundamentals, as appropriate for the student's skill level. After we've established a clear vision and certain rhythm of doing things, I would assign 15-20mins of warm-ups for each lesson -- tailoring the warmup exercises to specific techniques that the student wants to improve in.
