DOCTOR OF MUSICAL ARTS IN CONTEMPORARY FLUTE PERFORMANCE University of California-San Diego
MASTER OF FINE ARTS IN FLUTE PERFORMANCE California Institute of the Arts
BACHELOR OF MUSIC IN FLUTE PERFORMANCE The University ofArizona
I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, where my musical journey began at the age of eight with the Flute and Piano. From the moment I started playing, I knew music would be a lifelong passion. By the age of twelve, I had expanded my instrumental repertoire to include the Saxophone and Clarinet. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Flute Performance from the University of Arizona, then moved to Los Angeles to pursue a Master’s degree at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where I discovered a deep love for Contemporary Music. This passion led me to the University of California, San Diego, where I completed a Doctorate in Contemporary Flute Performance. Shortly after earning my DMA, I found a new calling in early childhood education and became devoted to sharing the joy of music with learners of all ages.
I began teaching in high school, working with middle school students, and continued throughout my academic journey. I've taught Flute, Piano, Clarinet, and Saxophone in school bands, music stores, private studios, and my own home. With over 15 years of full-time teaching experience, I’m passionate about inspiring students of all ages and helping them build confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of music. I believe in meeting each student where they are and creating a joyful, supportive learning environment that encourages exploration and growth.
My teaching approach is patient, flexible, and student-centered. I meet each student where they are, tailoring lessons to fit their individual needs, goals, and learning styles. Whether a student is preparing for auditions, learning a new instrument, or playing just for fun, we work together to set meaningful goals and achieve them step by step. I strive to make every lesson fun, engaging, and encouraging—so students stay motivated, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love and appreciation of music.
My teaching style is flexible, supportive, and student-focused. I begin by understanding each student’s unique goals—whether it’s mastering technique, preparing for performances, building confidence, or simply enjoying music. From there, we create a personalized plan to help them succeed. I tailor my approach to match each student’s learning style, pace, and interests, whether they’re beginners or advanced musicians. My goal is to make every lesson engaging, encouraging, and rewarding, so students stay motivated and excited to learn.
