I've consistently been teaching students both in private studios as well as in their homes for the last 10+ years. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, especially for brass instruments. I also tend to mix in some fun songs that are more well known using my own arrangements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. Setting goals throughout the lesson process is fundamental to a student progressing at their own pace and recognizing those goals will fuel their motivation to continue and prosper at their instrument. My teaching method depends on what the student wants to learn, if they prefer to start learning songs first that is fine but I will still make sure to cover basic music principles in early lessons and incorporate them into the lessons. I need and expect my students to practice at least 15 minutes of per day, more if possible. This will enable me to not have to review previous lessons too much and we can move through more material quicker. Read More
