My methods are in service of the cultivation of interest. Mainly I want the student to focus on learning how to play the music they want to play. The key to cultivating interest is to nurture the social, communicative and fun elements of playing music; associating the laughter and exhilaration with learning. I'm a self taught musician - I know that music is intuitive enough to learn without getting overly text-book about it, and I think focusing too much on the book at an early age can turn away potential musicians. : Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I like to keep my lessons fun. I realize that technique can be dull and dry at times but is a necessity in learning music. I like to mix technique with songs and styles of music the student is interested in so they get a full understanding of why technique is important and how it applies to songs and musical selections that are of interest to the student. A learning experience should be fun because for people, especially a child, something has to peak a willingness to learn. Read More

I'm pretty laidback and like to make the student feel comfortable. If given the opportunity I can definitely launch into some pretty passionate talks about music , to really reach out and teach my students some really cool things. At the same time though, i don't like to bore any student with certain topics if they aren't ready and willing to learn these things. It really depends on the student. I like to encourage playing or jamming in the lessons as well so that we can apply different things we are learning to actual music. Read More

In our lessons, I use proven individual methods that will enhance the students ability to achieve. Read More

I have found the last few years very rewarding as students become musicians. Since my first student I taught in 2004, through the days I taught at a music school, up right on to the present moment, I love passing the music onward as it was passed to me. Being a multi generational musician, it's important to me to teach this great artform and pass it down through generations. I also like to let my students know that "music lasts a lifetime." Because, if my students practice the material five days a week, for a minimum of 30 minutes, their skills as well as confidence will grow. Read More

I am a graduate of Rowan University, having studied bass with a Jazz Studies degree. I have been playing and studying music starting with piano at the age of 8. In the 4th grade I ventured towards clarinet for the school band and played academically until graduating from high school, after which I continued in a less formal manner. When I was 12 I switched from piano to electric bass and have been playing it ever since in various styles from rock to jazz to classical and so on. Read More
