I also drum for Stevedores dance/rock band and play guitar for Now and Later a 80's to today Rock band.  I am also a singer songwriter and accompany myself with guitar. I also have an Etsy Store called Sing A Song For Me where I write and record Customized songs for people to give as a Gift of Music to Family and Friends. You can visit my bandcamp site by googleing, lauriedavis@bandcamp.com for original music and other links where you can hire or view videos. On This Musika Profile I have added some videos for your viewing to help you decide on me as your music teacher! Enjoy!

Overview:
I am a great lover of music! I have enjoyed playing drums and guitar for many years. I have played drums in various bands both original and cover music as well as my guitar in singer/songwriter fashion. I sing as well to accompany my performance. I have taught private music lessons and I still perform in a cover band known as Now and Later made up of my adult children and myself, and a 2nd band called Stevedores a DANCE STYLE BAND, where I play drums and guitar as well as sing lead and background harmonies. I enjoy teaching private music lessons in my in home studio but have decided to switch to online lessons due to the pandemic. I I love sharing my knowledge and love of music with my students. I currently play drums for PRINCETON ALLIANCE CHURCH IN ONE OF THEIR WORSHIP BANDS! EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to the 1980's where I have taught Music Classes involving singing of worship music in religious elementary schools as well as teaching music theory, and music history. I am also a preschool teacher and teach preschool music enrichment classes. After school hours I enjoy teaching in my own home music studio, but due to pandemic have now switched to online music lessons. Teaching the guitar or drums to my students is very rewarding for it allows me to share my passion for music, keep music alive where as sometime's music is not present enough in this world, and to see my students progress and shine as they smile when they achieve a new musical goal!
METHODS USED
For very young guitar students I use Dick Bennett's books 1,2, 3 to start and then as the students progress we will continue to Mel Bay books 1, and 2 then proceed to chord books and charts, some knowledge that i will personally pass on such as finger exercise's and scales, use of the I pad and some guitar apps as well. I will also share my library of songs with them and show them how to play songs they enjoy as requested. For young beginning drum students, I begin with stick control exercises on drum pad. I teach music notation. They will learn how to read drum music as well as some general music theory that will help them to understand universal music theory a well. I teach the styles of rock, pop, folk, blues, and jazz style as well as marching band style. If you are a intermediary student in either instrument I will access your level and continue as I see fit to take you to the next level of expertise.
LESSON STYLE
I so enjoy when a student is passionate about music and learning their instrument. I try very hard to make learning their instrument fun. Yes I do let them know that Practice Makes Perfect but at the same time I let them know that I do understand that sometimes life gets busy. We will continue to learn, enjoy, and laugh as much as we can during lessons and stress practice but be compassionate to their situations . I will teach them at their pace and include songs at their level to make it interesting. In Dec I do Christmas Songs, Duets with my students and as they progress I will even pair them with a student on the same instrument to duet with or with a drum or guitar student (different from their instrument ) to get a band feel! That is always so awesome for all involved! By trying to find out what inspires each student I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.

I am in the beginning stage of learning drums, and just in 4 classes, Laurie gave me a lot of confidence in the way she teaches the drums. Her elegant way of giving step by step instructions on basics, drum-set tuning, stick control, leg control, reading music notes and playing along with some songs. I am so glad that I have got a perfect teacher to learn drums who is very knowledgeable in different instruments. Thanks Laurie for teaching me drums.

I am one of Laurie’s guitar students, and she’s an excellent teacher. During the last two months, she helped me in learning how to handle a guitar and my music skills have improved a lot. I was able to play for my mom’s 50th birthday. Thanks to Laurie, my mom enjoyed her surprise party! I am honored to be her student and I definitely recommend her!

My 5 year old daughter learns guitar from Laurie. She loves it! Laurie is very patient with her. She makes the classes fun for the kids by trying to teach them songs they are familiar with. If you are looking for a music teacher I would highly recommend her.

I am one of Laurie's drum students. She is a great teacher. One I like is that we start playing along with real songs from the beginning of our lessons instead of just playing only the exercises from the book by themselves. I have learned a lot from her lessons and I definitely recommend her.

Hi. My name is Nicole and I am one of Laurie's guitar students. Laurie is an incredible teacher and she makes our lessons so fun. I've always wanted to learn how to play guitar, so I started taking guitar lessons from Laurie D. in March. I learned so much such as playing many different chords, playing notes, finger picking, and playing all kinds of songs. I learned how to play many pop songs such as Play That Song by Train, Memories by Maroon 5, The Rose by Bette Midler, Betty by Taylor Swift, and so much more. Every day my love for guitar keeps growing and growing, and I always want to continue learning more things. Laurie Davis has definitely inspired me in so many ways and I can't wait to continue taking lessons from her.
