I have been playing guitar since I was 7 years old and bass guitar since I was about 14. I also play drums and piano, to a lesser degree. My musical education includes college level music theory classes, many years of lessons with instructors (including an accomplished jazz guitarist), work in recording studios, plenty of self-directed instruction, and real-world playing experience. As skill level grows, I try to encourage students to form their own chord progressions as well as using songs that I choose or a song the students chooses that will encourage them to play and learn more songs on their own. What I have found works best with semi-slow but significant results is the idea of 'planting seeds'. I describe this concept quite regularly with my students, and what I mean by it is that we will often talk about important musical ideas and simply make the student aware of what's happening. My teaching experience dates back to the 1980's where I have taught Music Classes involving singing of worship music in religious elementary schools as well as teaching music theory, and music history. I was also a preschool teacher and taught preschool music enrichment classes. After school hours I enjoy teaching in my own home music studio, but due to pandemic have now switched to online music lessons.
