Music is my life and I am a dedicated and passionate instructor and performer for over 20 years! I love teaching and sharing that passion of music with my students! I I am a 6 time schloarship winner to Duquesne University's Guitar and Bass School. I have toured the east coast performing the music from my five cds and opening up for numerous folk artists and singers songwriters such as Roger McGuinn, Livingston Taylor, Dar Williams and Riders in The Sky. I also have 22 guitar compositions published with RDSD Publishing for TV and film projects. I have 2 teaching studios and have been teaching both private and group instruction since 1992.
My teaching experience goes back to my first teaching studio at Music World in Lancaster PA in 1987. A few years later in 1992, I got married [still am!!]. I started my home studio and have had an amazing studio since!! It is sound proof with all ammenities, a waiting room, and technology, which I use often as a part of my lessons! I have found in my many years of teaching that it is better to give the basic foundations of music and to teach the students the music they want to learn versuses boring them with music they dislike. This keeps them interested and motivated to reach their goals and they love the music they are learning instead of traditional practice of learning page by page in a book. My students love their lessons due to the fact that they have a good time and they are learning music that interests them.
For my young kids between ages 6-10, I teach them power chord structures for rock n blues. We learn how to read rhythmic notation and apply those concepts to popular rock tunes. Afterwards [4-6 weeks], I brielfy take them through a book called "Rock Guitar For Kids", which teaches all the fun applications for modern, rock n blues guitar. For teens and adults, I design their own curriculum based on their music goals and the music they want to learn. I used material from the Musicians Institute, Berklee, National Guitar Workshop, the internet and my own materials that I have designed over the last 20 years. I also record the students' lessons and email it to them, so that it will help them with their practicing at home. I also encourage them to play with other musicians, as that will make them a better musician. I also teach improvisation and how it is so important to go outside the box and play!
It is an amazing feeling to see my students happy with the music they are learning! I give my students the music foundations and concepts so they can learn the music they want to play. This keeps them enjoying what they are learning. They work at their own pace and know that they are learning and having fun! I also encourage them to listen to a lot of musicans on youtube, so they can have some influences that will help them with musicality, creativity and improvisation as they keep going!
