The way that music theory underlies all of these disciplines will help the intermediate student to gain a more comprehensive understanding of how their instrument and music in general works. I'm also able to teach total beginners, as well as advanced players. For beginners, I start with a book by Hal Leonard, which allows us to slowly master the basic fundamentals of guitar and music. Most beginning students are able to play through their first song within the first month or so of studying with more. Read More

During my studies at Schenectady County Community College, I served as a music tutor within the School of Music. I offered tutoring to fellow students in the subjects of music theory, ear training/sight singing, and keyboard techniques. My experience working as a music tutor has given me the opportunity to connect these studies with a student's lessons on their chosen instrument. When teaching music theory and ear training to those studying an instrument, I keep in mind how these concepts apply to their chosen instrument, and how this knowledge can always remain relevant. I have taught privately on and off throughout my career in many different iterations. I bring a unique set of skills to the table as far as teaching is concerned, because I was totally self taught, learning very organically-listening and playing along to records, playing in bands-then went to music school at UGA and learned a more formal approach to how drums are taught. In addition to my private studio, I have been a collegiate music educator training professional musicians. Read More

I can teach many instruments that I have taught myself how to play well and efficiently. I play in many bands and I am always learning new styles of music. My best instruments are Piano, Bass, Drums, Ukulele, Guitar, Percussion, Harmonica, Recorder, Tin Whistle, Mandolin and also Trumpet. My secondary instruments are everything else. I can fool around on Violin, Cello, Banjo and Trombone as an amateur. I could blow into a Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, French Horn and probably anything else I can get my hands on, but I would not feel comfortable teaching them yet because I don't have enough time in the world to learn them and figure out how to play them myself and get as good as I can on those instruments.
