Teaching for me is about finding a balance. The way I approach a lesson consists of focusing solely on the students goals and aspirations and working on that, but also demonstrating yourself to be a good musician and teacher who your student trusts and receives inspiration from. That said, I like to find out and sometimes predict what students would like to do with the guitar and start from there. Read More

I believe the most important part of lessons is the student's engagement. This is achieved by understanding what they want to play and tailoring lessons around that music. When a student is engaged in the songs they are learning, they are more motivated and excited to learn. This makes it so fun to practice that they won't be able to stop! This will amplify all their skills and they will progress much faster. Read More

I like to combine Technique and Theory with hands on application into songs. I start by doing an analysis of the level of theory and the proficiency of playing of the student. Then, I create a path of Theory = Practical learning to do. In theory, we analyze how music works before we touch the instrument. Then, we go on to learn technique on the instrument and learn song adapted to the students taste of music In this part, we also apply our theory knowledge onto what we play. Read More

I am a passionate musician and fully certified instructor who always looks for and sees the best in everyone around me. I am in three bands of various genres and I found over time that enforcing learning music through having fun with it is the most effective way to learn! Nobody wants to learn something if it becomes boring or a chore, so I always find ways to keep learning interesting. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with simple chords and teach them a few fun songs. If the student is interested in learning how to read music, I will use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance if they are interested in performing live. For adults, I like to find out what they are most interested in, whether it is a specific genre, (jazz/classical) or if they are more interested in learning songs (classic rock/pop/etc.) or songwriting. I am a firm believer in not re-inventing the wheel. I don't use my own lesson plans. I meet with students to see what they know and what they want to learn, and then use books, YouTube videos or tutorials to teach - learn with- students. A typical curriculum for me first learning the chromatic scale, then the major two octave scale. Then the minor two octave scale, then basic major and minor chords. Read More
