Effective music education is both developmentally and culturally appropriate: By working with the student to understand their interests, I hope to provide them with an experience that will enrich their musical and social life outside of the work we do together. Over the years, I've taken lessons from instructors who had an array of teaching styles. While in high school, I was taught through intimidation and was scared into learning, which is something I was able to handle. This methods can actually turn students away from music which is the main reason dislike approach. Students should be comfortable and relaxed when entering a lesson. They must also muster up impressive right and left hand coordination just to play a single note. Because of this I give students a lot of room to play around and just enjoy holding the guitar and making any appreciable sound with it. Especially with very young children, I find this is key to keeping them engaged and curious about the instrument at first.
