For the beginner my method is to start with the basics. You will learn how to read standard notation, and tabs. We will work on technique, and help you develop a nice tone. I also like to incorporate music that the students want to learn to make it fun and exciting as well. Even though learning the guitar can be hard work, it should also be really fun. More advanced students can bring music they are working on, either for school or for themselves and we will find a way to make it more interesting and polished. Read More

My main goal in educating is to help a student develop a true passion for music. I strive to help a student, any age, better understand music theory and technique so that music can remain a part of their life and so that they have the tools to explore different genres as their tastes broaden. By being a positive and dependable resource in a students musical life I help students reach goals at a pace effective for them and hope to inspire musical growth long after the lesson is completed. First of all, theory is extremely important to learn music. By learning and understanding theory you will realize and appreciate music as the amalgam between art and science. Music is heavily influenced by math. Music is science of the soul. Secondly, I make a lot of emphasis on improvisation as well. As soon as you understand the fretboard and your finger get used to playing, then improvisation connects your fingers with your soul, your muse, your inspiration. Read More

My teaching style is conversational. We created a project or topic. I'll tell you my experiences & listen to your questions. I will customize exercises or solutions to any issue you may have. I teach the student how to get a natural feel that includes tone, time, & finesse. The goal is to get the student sounding like they have been playing longer than they have actually been. Applying these abilities to songs the students are interested in is the next step. Read More

Every new student comes to their first lesson with particular skills and musical interests. My job is to assess the students abilities and lead them down the appropriate paths to achieving their musical goals. My goal is to cultivate musicianship. Students are encouraged to develop technical skills as a means of creative and emotional expression. Sight reading and improvisation are taught simultaneously with music theory and composition. Through individualized lessons and ensemble experience, students are encouraged to reproduce and create music as early as possible. Read More

I'm a dedicated and passionate student and teacher of music and enjoy teaching just as much as playing. I'm a graduate of Muhlenberg College with a BA in music performance. As much as I love performing in front of an audience, I get the same warm satisfaction out of constant practice and sharpening of my skills on my own. As someone who regularly plays with working, Grammy-nominated musicians in the tri-state area I've found that the musical values I hold dear translate all across the board to all players and styles.
