My biggest reward is seeing my students passionate about their voice, their instrument, their music. I focus a lot on understanding music from the piano so I feel very happy when they can demonstrate good musicianship skills in challenging settings. I tend to incline towards George Molineux's premise of imagery and teaching. Constructing my own philosophy of music teaching. For children I tend to start with posture, positioning of the hands, rounded fingers and finger notation. I understand that Molineux's teaching methods are of the 19th centurybut they are still relevant today in how we perceive music. My teaching style requires the students to be consistent with their practice and warm ups, which helps to make lessons more efficient and allow students to see faster improvement. For all of my students, I put a lot of emphasis on the fundamentals of a woodwind player, which focuses on student's posture, embouchure, fingering, and breath support. I developed a passion for teaching when I picked up a few students in college. The experience was fulfilling, and I realized that I enjoyed imparting my love for the instrument on others. After graduating, I continued to pick up students and teach private lessons in my home studio. The most important element to learning any instrument is to cultivate a genuine curiousity. I encourage students to listen to a broad spectrum of music, and to find things they like about certain artists and musicians. Read More
