Depending on the students goals, current aptitude, and innate abilities I'll select exercises, etudes, and methodologies from a variety of materials. I work from Hal Leonard's, and Berklee's libraries primarily, but most often use a smattering of tools, exercises, and excerpts that have worked for me and past students; creating a lesson plan over time that is better tailored to the student as an individual. One of the major obstacles when learning the guitar versus, say, the piano, are the immediate physical demands. Read More

I tend to start my lessons with discussing what has brought the student to their instrument, and what music they love. After learning about their hopes and goals, I start teaching from a technical perspective to help them get a handle on their instruments. From there I discuss practice techniques, music and guides to listen to, and start teaching them songs and repertoire they are passionate about. I love incorporating listening, writing, and seeing live music into a student's learning experience. Read More

There are many different methods, practices, and philosophies that one can use when teaching drumming, and the most effective approach will depend on the individual student and their needs and goals. Here is a general overview of some approaches that I might use when teaching drumming: 1. Begin with the basics: Before diving into more complex rhythms and techniques, it's important to establish a solid foundation of basic drumming skills. This might include proper hand and foot technique, basic rhythms, and an understanding of the different parts of the drum set. 2. Read More

I usually tend to focus on technique and posture when I'm dealing with a beginner. I'll get to introduce them the instrument itself and make them familiarize with the fretboard (with a special focus on bow and shifts when it comes to upright bass). Rudiments of ear training and harmony will follow as the students progress with their favorite tunes, etudes or a general introduction to styles (depending on the student's temper and instrument). I am a laid back teacher, but I make sure all students behave and learn. I love when the students enjoy what they are doing, and when I enjoy what I am doing. It's a relationship that you build. I expect the students to practice their craft. I continue to learn as I teach as well. Inspiration is very important. The inspired students are special for they know what they want to accomplish. I reinforce the importance of daily practice and realistic goals; 15 minutes of focused practice goes a long way at any part of one’s music development. I stress the importance of fundamentals and proper technique. It is essential early on not to form bad habits that will preclude progress. I can be contacted via email between scheduled lessons to assist a student if they are confused about a part of a lesson plan. Read More

In 2013 I graduated from William Paterson University with B.A. in Music Studies with a minor in music management. In 2012 I completed an in depth internship with 5 time Grammy award winner Glen Velez. Music is my passion because its fun and it is a life long journey where you keep expanding and learning more. I hope to pass on my knowledge that I have accumulated from years of lessons and university to students and friends. Read More
